Oromahoe School Staff 2022

Tracey Smith


Tracey is an experienced Principal, Teacher and School Management Advisor who over the past 30 years has worked in a variety of schools both in New Zealand and internationally in the UAE, Indonesia and Vietnam. She brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to Oromahoe School. Tracey has been instrumental in driving a range of exciting projects around the school to benefit academic achievement and student learning environments.


Kathy Proebstel

Deputy Principal

Year 5-6 Classroom Teacher

Returning to the north in 2017 to live and work, Kathy came to Oromahoe mid 2019. Originally trained in supporting children with special needs, she then went on to mainstream teaching and learning. She encourages collaboration with tamariki to develop learner agency, and values whanau being involved in supporting the well-being and achievement of their tamariki at school. Kathy has a passion and broad experience in Education Outside the Classroom and is looking forward to supporting students at Oromahoe School as they embark on the William Pike Challenge.


Del Bailey

Junior Team Leader

Year 2-3 Classroom Teacher

Born in the north and originally from Ohaeawai, Del Bailey and whanau returned to the north in 2018 after 20 years in West Auckland. Curiosity and collaboration is what drives her passion of over 15 years teaching, working alongside communities, whanau, colleagues and tamariki. She is a true believer of the tamariki creating and being involved in the learning, developing their strengths and creativity to achieve success as a learner.

Michelle Harden

Year 0-1 Classroom Teacher

Michelle joined Oromahoe School in 2017. Prior to teaching at Oromahoe School Michelle worked with students with special needs in a variety of schools. She is passionate about teaching in the junior school, and making the transition from early childhood education to primary as seamless as possible. Michelle brings diverse experience to her role as a classroom teacher. She is a mother of four, and comes from a large local whanau.


Lexie Pieters

Year 5-6 Classroom Teacher/ SENCO

Lexie is an experienced teacher who has taught both locally and internationally. She is passionate about student achievement and guiding children to take ownership of their learning. Lexie is a reading recovery trained teacher who is dedicated to running a robust literacy programme. The use of technology in her classroom compliments her program with the belief that learning is achieved on a variety of platforms.


Clare Mooney

Year 1 -2 Classroom Teacher

Clare has lived and taught in Kerikeri over the past 7 years and joined Oromahoe School in 2021. Clare has taught in a variety of Early Childhood centres and Primary schools both in New Zealand and Internationally. She values the diversity of each child and is passionate about providing rich learning experiences, which support children to develop the essential life long skills for becoming confident and successful learners. Clare is looking forward to continuing her teaching journey here at Oromahoe Primary school.


Dani Biddle

Year 3-4 Classroom Teacher

Dani is new to Northland, moving up from Auckland in 2019. She grew up in Hawaii and has taught as a class teacher and a science specialist teacher both in New Zealand and London. Dani is passionate about science and completed a post graduate honours degree in primary science and maths teaching through the University of Auckland. The inquiry approach with hands-on, student led learning is something Dani believes in strongly and she is loves being part of the Oromahoe whanau.


Dianne Henwood

Year 3-4 Classroom Teacher

Born and raised in Hukerenui, Dianne has been teaching in Whangarei and Kaikohe for the past 10 years. She has recently moved to Kerikeri to join the Oromahoe team. Dianne is currently studying Digital and Collaborative learning and this will lead onto her completing her masters over the next 2 years. She brings to the classroom a passion for student, whanau and community involvement in student learning. Dianne believes students need to learn problem solving skills and collaboration to be able to adapt to changes and be part of our ever changing world.


Katie O'Brien

Classroom Release Teacher

Katie is passionate about whanaungatanga and is actively involved in the community and supports the students in the whole school to take action in the community. Katie began her teaching career in Auckland and moved back home to the North where she took up a teaching position in Kaikohe before joining Oromahoe School in 2017.


Erica Blackwood

Classroom Release Teacher

Erica started her teaching career in Paparoa on the Kaipara harbour before taking off to follow her travelling dreams of sailing throughout the world. She has a huge passion for travel, cultural diversity and the natural environment. Most of her teaching career has been spent relieving in many different schools throughout Northland. Her current passion is a focus on environmental sustainability both within the local and national settings but also with an overall global perspective. (Erika is on leave in Term 1 2022)
